Role Overview
ivolve are looking for an experienced Head of Health and Safety to join our senior leadership team to drive approaches to health and safety across the group. You will work shoulder to shoulder with colleagues across functions to develop comprehensive governance arrangements that ensure we focus on the health safety and wellbeing of all involved in our care and support.
We are interested in hearing from experienced leaders who are looking to bring passion to the role developing and delivering a sector leading health and safety strategy.
Your Responsibilities
Governance:
- Maintain and develop the Group’s H&S policies and procedures in collaboration with Divisions to ensure they have high quality policies that meet and exceed regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Develop the Group’s fire safety policy and appropriate procedures for the ongoing championing of best practice fire safety.
- Develop and oversee the delivery of appropriate H&S audit framework.
- Ensure the Group has the appropriate H&S committee structure in place and provide regular feedback on the organisation’s H&S status.
- Provide advice and guidance to the Group Facilities Manager to ensure property compliance reporting meets and exceeds the appropriate standards for a Health & Social Care provider.
- Provide oversight of the procurement process for H&S related contracts.
- Ensure H&S requirements are embedded within the quality governance framework and assurance processes.
- Chair, lead and co-ordinate relevant forums as part of the safety committee and governance structure.
- Utilise data, reporting and metrics to identify themes and trends and work across the organisation to take corrective action and/or recognise innovation.
- Lead on safety improvement through the development and monitoring of action plans.
- Produce accurate and timely reports that enable effective safety decision making.
Proactive & Reactive Support:
- Develop and co-produce a H&S strategy that encourages innovative approaches to person-led safety.
- Work in partnership across the organisation to ensure H&S learning requirements are identified and met at all levels.
- Provide advice and guidance that enables the group to identify and undertake innovative approaches to H&S within the sector.
- Relationship manage the insurance company and all other external health and safety partners.
- Develop organisation excellence through participation in sector-wide initiatives, sharing and developing H&S news, communication and practice development.
- Oversee and co-ordinate corporate safety accreditations or schemes then enable Enviro to demonstrate sector leading approaches.
- Work in partnership with the Group’s Managing Directors and their teams to manage safety, offering expert advice and guidance.
- Conduct and co-ordinate investigation/root cause analysis into complex safety and environmental incidents and accidents.
- As part of any acquisition integration plan, undertake any specific tasks relating to H&S. Complete due diligence and support new business and acquisitions though integration planning and support.
- Complete H&S audits, audit reports and action plans that drive safety improvements.
Detailed Knowledge:
- NEBOSH qualifications pertinent to the role description including NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management.
- Health and Safety regulation, legislation and reporting requirements.
- Current best practice, news and learning within H&S.
- Safety governance systems and how to lead and co-ordinate this within a social care setting.
- Approaches to audit, safety assurance and the effective systems and tools required.
- How to analyse data and performance metrics, communicating these in a meaningful manner to develop safety improvement strategies.
- Leadership and employee engagement competencies.
- Corporate safety accreditations or schemes then enable the Group to demonstrate sector leading approaches.
- Information communication technologies (ICT) and how to utilise this to communicate effectively across a large multi-site organisation.
The main skills and experience for this role:
- Working as a Health and Safety Manager/Advisor.
- Leading meetings, forums and committees reviewing safety performance.
- Completing audits and utilising an evidence-based assessment to drive safety strategy and improvement.
- Using data, reporting and metrics to drive improvements.
- Working in partnership with the people we support and their families/careers.
- External accreditations and involvement in inspections/assessments.
- Using information communication technologies effectively.
- Regulatory and contract compliance inspections and frameworks.
- Developing/reviewing H&S policies, processes and procedures.
- Completing due diligence and supporting new business.
- Line management of small teams
